TWHBEA National Futurity Proves ‘WAY’ Successful

Lewisburg, TN - The 2011 Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) National Futurity, held the evening of Wednesday, August 24th, at Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennessee, was an overwhelming success. 166 young horses performed for an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd that also enjoyed a thrilling performance by 2002 World Grand Champion out on Parole and Steve Dunn. Also adding a touch of class and excitement to the evening was noted stallion Watch Out Jose, who was exhibited in-hand by his proud owner Delaine Freeman Smith. At another point in the evening, Ms. Smith presented a generous donation, garnered from the Betty B. Freeman Memorial Horse Show, to the TWHBEA Scholarship Fund. Her donation was accepted by TWHBEA Member At Large Youth Linda Starnes and Youth Coordinator Paulette Ewing.

The theme for this year’s National Futurity was ‘WAY! - We Appreciate You!’ Every effort was made to extend red carpet treatment to each participant and spectator. Admission to the event was free and those attending the show were greeted by members of the TWHBEA Executive Committee and staff. Staff members were also available to answer questions and welcome spectators at the TWHBEA booth in Calsonic arena.

The evening culminated in an exciting Three-Year-Old Stallions Class, which saw seven top entries give it their all. In the end, Prime Country, ridden by Chad Baucom for Baucom/Hewitt, emerged victorious. Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture Julius Johnson attended and presented from Center Ring in Class 8. TWHBEA would like to thank and congratulate all of the exhibitors at the 2011 TWHBEA National Futurity, the premier showcase for our breed’s future.
