4-H Program

You don't need several horses to compete in the many different 4-H events……just one Tennessee Walking Horse! The Tennessee Walking Horse continues to prove itself as one of the most versatile horses, and the breed's gentle disposition, kindly manner, and willingness to please make it the perfect 4-H mount. Tennessee Walking Horses successfully compete in many disciplines.
  • Barrel Racing
  • Basic Reining and Dressage
  • English Pleasure
  • Good Seat & Hands
  • Jumping
  • Pleasure Driving
  • Pole Bending
  • Showmanship at Halter
  • Trail Obstacles
  • Western Pleasure

Judging Video/Booklet TOP
You be the judge! Mark your own cards and then compare your placings with those of the official panel.

The video features six classes of Tennessee Walking Horses, Yearling Colts, Mares In Hand, Geldings In Hand, Lite-Shod Western Pleasure 3-Gait, Lit-Shod English Pleasure 2-Gait, and Performance Specialty 2-Gait.

Cuts and reasons for each class are included. Cuts, which range from 1 to 8, reflect the difficulty of the placing between two horses. A 1 cut indicates a very close placing and a 8 is indicative of a very easy decision between two horses.

The video comes with a booklet that can be copied for each member of your team. Topics include:

  • Conducting a Horse Judging Contest
  • The Basics of Tennessee Walking Horses
  • Evaluating Conformation
  • Evaluating Skeletal Structure

This is an ideal educational tool for youth and collegiate judging teams who want to enhance their knowledge of judging Tennessee Walking Horses in preparation for competition.
